King's Business School, and the Faculty of Business and Law, University of Portsmouth have been reaccredited with the prestigious Small Business Charter for five years in recognition of their exceptional impact on small businesses and their local economies.

The panel of independent assessors commended King's Business School for the important role it plays in the London entrepreneurial ecosystem, with strategic initiatives and programmes delivering real impact to students and businesses alike. The school has developed important connections with Business in the Community, Grow London Local, and local councils. It has also established an entrepreneurial culture that encourages students to start their own businesses and supports business owners in gaining and embedding important strategic skills.

Professor Stephen Bach, Executive Dean of King’s Business School, said:

“We are delighted to have secured a five-year re-accreditation from the Small Business Charter, reflecting our continued commitment to entrepreneurship education and support for SMEs. This achievement aligns with our focus on inclusive and sustainable growth. It also enables us to continue delivering the Help to Grow: Management programme, and we thank all colleagues and partners who contributed to the application and panel visit.”

The Faculty of Business and Law, University of Portsmouth is active in regional and national networks, collaborating with organisations such as Shaping Portsmouth, Portsmouth City Council, and Chambers of Commerce. It co-delivers initiatives, leads major business events, and offers visible support for SMEs through services such as business advisory provision.

“The renewal of our Small Business Charter accreditation is a significant achievement for the Faculty of Business and Law, reaffirming our long‑standing excellence in supporting small business growth, strengthening regional partnerships, and championing student enterprise in line with the University of Portsmouth’s civic agenda.”

Flora Hamilton, Executive Director of the Small Business Charter and CEO of the Chartered Association of Business Schools, said:

Each has shown an outstanding commitment to supporting small businesses and fostering entrepreneurship in their local economies. This reaccreditation recognises the vital role business schools such as these play in deepening engagement with SMEs to drive innovation and growth across the UK."

The Small Business Charter is an accreditation assessed by small business leaders, to recognise business schools which are centres of excellence in supporting small businesses, student enterprise, and the local economy.  

There are now 69 business schools in the UK, and two internationally in Ireland and Australia, that hold the Small Business Charter accreditation.
