Portsmouth Business School was founded in 1985, and was later integrated into the Faculty in 1994. Our school is located in the historic waterfront city of Portsmouth, on the South Coast of England. Portsmouth is recognised as one of the most entrepreneurial cities in the UK*. Since the start of lockdown in March 2020 to the end of December 2020, 1,970 new businesses have been registered in the Portsmouth area. We are ideally placed to link with small businesses and start-ups based across the Solent Region.

The Small Business Team was established in 2016, they actively engage with small businesses to understand their needs and look for ways to work together to solve problems. They work alongside colleagues in Innovation Connect and Careers and Employability, as well as key stakeholders in the region, such as Portsmouth City Council, The Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, and the Solent LEP. 

Collaboration: is key to the team, they have adopted an “outward in approach” with their business contacts, which allows for a two way relationship. This has resulted in our highly successful Entrepreneurs in Residence Scheme, with 31 entrepreneurs who offer support and guidance to our students, academics, and businesses.
