Surrey Business School has been awarded the Small Business Charter accreditation for five years.

The school was praised for its proactive approach in seeking new ways to support its small business community through initiatives, such as the Hatchery which provides a dedicated start-up space for enterprise activity within the school.

The panel of assessors highlighted the school’s enterprise infrastructure for playing an important role in actively supporting student entrepreneurial activity. The school offers various enterprise support programmes such as Ignite, Accelerate, and Launch through The Student Enterprise Hub, a centralised online portal.

The school demonstrates a mature approach to embedding enterprise and entrepreneurship throughout its academic and co-curricular ecosystem. This model fosters entrepreneurial mindsets, skills, and tangible outcomes while maintaining strong industry links.

Professor Iis Tussyadiah, Dean, Surrey Business School, said:

“We are delighted to receive the Small Business Charter accreditation with such an outstanding result. This recognition reflects the collective effort of our colleagues, partners, and wider community in building a business school that is deeply connected to enterprise and impact. It reinforces our commitment to supporting SMEs, fostering entrepreneurship, and contributing to inclusive and sustainable economic growth.”

Flora Hamilton, Executive Director of the Small Business Charter and CEO of the Chartered Association of Business Schools, said:

"We are delighted to welcome Surrey Business School to the Small Business Charter network. The school's commitment to student entrepreneurship and SME support sits at the heart of its strategy, reflecting a deeply rooted enterprise culture. This accreditation recognises that dedication, and we look forward to seeing their continued impact on innovation and economic growth in the region."

The Small Business Charter is an accreditation assessed by small business leaders, to recognise business schools which are centres of excellence in supporting small businesses, student enterprise, and the local economy.

There are now 68 business schools in the UK, and two internationally in Ireland and Australia, that hold the Small Business Charter accreditation.
