Brunel Business School and Sheffield Business School have been reaccredited with the prestigious Small Business Charter for five years in recognition of their exceptional impact on small businesses and their local economy.

Brunel Business School was commended for demonstrating a strong and comprehensive commitment to supporting SMEs, engaging stakeholders, and embedding enterprise activity across teaching, research, and partnerships. This is evident in the wide range of opportunities for students to engage in entrepreneurial learning, from incubator participation to live consultancy, competitions, placements, and mentoring.

Professor Danae Manika, Executive Dean of Brunel Business School, said:

“We are delighted to have secured reaccreditation from the Small Business Charter. This achievement reflects our strong commitment to supporting small businesses, fostering entrepreneurial talent, and embedding real‑world experience across our teaching and research. We look forward to building on this momentum and strengthening our impact for students, businesses and the wider community.”

Sheffield Business School was praised for its deeply embedded culture of SME support and commitment to regional economic prosperity, both of which sit at the heart of the school's mission. This commitment is evident across the breadth of its activities, from original research, direct SME support, and student engagement with businesses and entrepreneurs through placements, internships, and the curriculum.

Dr Sam Giove, Director of Sheffield Business School, said:

“I’m so delighted that we have been awarded continued Small Business Charter accreditation status by the Chartered Association of Business Schools. While awarded to the business school, the application also reflects activity from across the wider university.  The reaccreditation reflects our dedication to supporting the growth of SMEs, strengthening the regional economy, and fostering entrepreneurship among our students and graduates. We are extremely proud to receive this recognition.”

Flora Hamilton, Executive Director of the Small Business Charter and CEO of the Chartered Association of Business Schools, said:

"We are delighted to reaccredit these schools as part of the Small Business Charter network. Both have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to supporting small businesses and student entrepreneurship by embedding enterprise across their teaching, research, and partnerships. We look forward to continuing to work with them."

The Small Business Charter is an accreditation assessed by small business leaders, to recognise business schools which are centres of excellence in supporting small businesses, student enterprise, and the local economy.

There are now 70 business schools in the UK, and two internationally in Ireland and Australia, that hold the Small Business Charter accreditation.
