When Help to Grow: Management launched in April 2021, it was designed to help small business leaders develop more resilient, innovative, and productive businesses as they emerged from the global pandemic. Fast forward 3 years and the impact of global events continues to make doing business challenging for the UK’s 5.6 million SMEs.
To ensure we remain relevant to SME leaders, we have continued to evolve the 12-week Help to Grow: Management Course content each year since its launch.
The latest update includes new elements ranging from content on the current economic environment to employee-focused issues.
Wellbeing has been a significant concern for many employers in recent years. As a result, new material on mental health and wellbeing for both managers and employees has been added to the Organisational Design module. This will help leaders address wellbeing in their business and ensure that they have the right practices in place to help themselves.
Course participants have told us that sustainability is a high priority for businesses, employees and customers, so the Help to Grow: Management Course will now have an increased focus on this important subject. This has been achieved by embedding more content on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and responsible business practices throughout the curriculum. However, these topics will feature most prominently in the Effective Operations module.
For those who run service-based business, new information has been added throughout the course that clearly details what practices can benefit organisations in this area.
Finally, there is an increased focus on the accessibility of course materials, this includes changes to font placement, sizing, style, alt-text, and improved consistency throughout.
Director of Aston Centre for Growth and Curriculum Director of Help to Grow: Management, Paula Whitehouse said: "We strive to ensure that the Help to Grow Management Course content is relevant and up-to-date, reflecting the changing business and economic environment for our participants.
“To that end, we have published a new version of the curriculum every year since its launch. With the most recently updated version, I am particularly pleased that we were able to add new learning resources to help business leaders support mental health and wellbeing in their workplace, and enhance the consideration of environmental and societal impact across all business functions to help business leaders embed sustainability in their strategic planning."
