The National Mentoring Matters Awards celebrates the dedication of business mentors working on the Help to Grow: Management Course. This year the awards were held in Birmingham’s world-famous Symphony Hall. With approximately 2,000 mentors involved in Help to Grow: Management, there was plenty of competition for the nine awards up for grabs.
The winners of the National Mentoring Matters Awards 2024 were:
Les Gill (The Innovation Award), Rachel Rowntree (The Mentors Choice Award)
Svetla Stoyanova-Bozhkovar (Best Mentor Award Personal Impact )
Roger Wilson-Gray (Biggest Impact Award)
Simon Wingfield (Excellence in Mentoring Award)
Justine Upton (Best Mentor Award Business Impact, and Outstanding Contribution)
Olly Reid (Most Inspirational Mentor Award)
Lola Adeleye (Excellence through Diversity)
On the back of the fantastic event, Help to Grow: Management caught up with the winner of two awards, Justine Upton.
“What an incredible bunch of people at the event, it felt such a privilege to be among them, we were all there supporting each other, learning from each other, inspiring each other.
“I was overwhelmed to hear I had won the first award Outstanding Contribution, let alone the second for Best Mentor for Business Impact. As a mentor, your work is all about the people and businesses you mentor, it is never about you and it doesn't serve you or your mentees well if you have an over-inflated ego, so being recognised for the work I have done was quite emotional.
I was so touched to be nominated by my mentees and for them to have taken the time to write the awards.”
Discussing the importance of mentoring, Justine said: “I have been a business owner, and I know the value first-hand of a good mentor. Running a company can be a lonely place even if you have a co-director or a whole board.
“It’s important to have someone who doesn’t judge you, who listens to you, who is there for you, who can look at things with a fresh perspective, can help you navigate your peer relationships, and ultimately help you realise your own potential and your company's vision.”
The Help to Grow: Management Course includes 10 hours of 1-2-1 mentoring. Business leaders can identify mentors whose experience most closely resembles the challenge they are facing, whether it’s related to their leadership or their business journey.
