Finding the right hire can be tough. In fact, Indeed and Glassdoor have found that 2023 job postings are 42% above their pre-pandemic level in the UK, and it is proving difficult for employers to attract the talent they need. While benefits are a proven way to attract top talent, an initial in-person conversation can also go a long way.

This is the belief of London South Bank University which recently held a job fair entitled ‘Find Your Place(Ment).’ The university held the event to match students with small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who attended the Help to Grow: Management Course.

The Help to Grow: Management Course offers business leaders and decision-makers the tools to develop their businesses in every area over 12 weeks. The outcome of the course is a comprehensive and individually tailored Growth Action Plan that helps participants to reach their goals.

Naturally, growth often requires hiring new people and the event helped students find employment while also helping the businesses achieve their goals.

Feedback on the event and Help to Grow: Management

Annette Brook, Head of Communications at Theatre Peckham and Help to Grow: Management alumni, discussed the benefits of the fair and course: ‘Since completing the course all alumni continue to receive invites to further developmental sessions. These include talks and seminars that are a fantastic way for former students to keep in contact with each other and the fabulous LSBU Business School team.

‘We were recently invited to attend a student recruitment event too which has been a great way to advertise a finance assistant role.’

Lyn Hamblin, Head of Graduate Outcomes and Programne Director of Help to Grow: Management at London South Bank University, commented ‘The benefits of offering a chance to hire student talent after business leaders complete Help to Grow: Management is manifold. Many small business leaders conclude with expansion plans and find access to talent difficult and time-consuming. This event helps solve that problem. It is also a great way to increase the number of opportunities for graduating students.”
