DCU’s Women in Leadership series ‘Flourishing in the Face of Adversity: Rebuilding Resilience in the Workplace’

DCU Business School is proud to present the third event in its Women in Leadership series, ‘Flourishing in the Face of Adversity: Rebuilding Resilience in the Workplace’. This edition aims to address the unique challenges faced by our female leaders, and the inspirational ways in which these difficulties can be conquered.

Three remarkable women join DCU to share their stories of adversity and resilience, both personal and professional: Peaches Kemp, Co-Founder of Itsa Bagel;Orlaith Carmody, Managing Director of Gavin Duffy & Associates; and Roslyn Bell, Director of Commonhall Apartments.

The Women in Leadership series, co-hosted by DCU’s Leadership and Talent Institute and the Centre for Family Business, aims to ignite essential conversations around inclusivity and diversity in leadership and family business, with a view to developing new ideas. Leading guest speakers are invited to share their knowledge and reflections on women in the workplace, and their experience of female leadership.

Peaches Kemp co-founded Itsa with her sister Domini in 1999. Having started with one bagel shop 18 years ago, the Kemps now have 15 outlets incorporating several brands: Itsa Bagel, Itsa Cafés, Joe’s Coffee, Feast Catering, Table Restaurant, Hatch & Sons and Alchemy Juice Co. Itsa is director-owned and run, and employs over 120 people. Peaches is a qualified chef, has a post graduate degree in PR, and holds an advanced degree in wine from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (UK). She won Image Businesswoman of the Year in 2009 and was a finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the year programme in 2011. She is on the EY EOY Alumni Board and is a board member of Inner City Enterprise, a not for profit private charity that helps the long term unemployed start their own businesses.

Orlaith Carmody, Managing Director of Gavin Duffy & Associates. As a well-known communications expert in Ireland and overseas, Orlaith’s day job is working with leaders in the world’s top companies delivering executive training programmes, and preparing leadership teams for frontline communications. As a keynote speaker she has addressed Ireland’s most influential business people, networks and political groups, and has also presented at conferences in the USA, UAE, Canada and throughout Europe. She is the author of the recent bestselling book, Perform As a Leader. Following a career as a broadcast journalist with RTÉ, Orlaith became a serial entrepreneur, and is the Managing Director of Gavin Duffy & Associates, which specializes in communications training and leadership development. She is a director of a number of SMEs in media, recruitment and education, and she served on the board of RTÉ from 2010 to 2015.

Roslyn Bell is an Entrepreneur and Director of Commonhall Apartments. Roslyn Bell is a serial female Entrepreneur with a multi-million-pound property empire. Roslyn is a survivor, inspirational speaker, business coach, advocate for woman in business and author. Roslyn’s message is one of courage, self-belief and determination to make it happen against the odds.
