Small Business Leadership Programme

Small Business Leadership Programme FAQs

When does the course start?

Courses will begin between September 2020 and January 2021. Please look at our registration page for full details of courses in your area. There are 20 participating business schools.

Is the course delivered online or face-to-face?

The sessions will be delivered live online via a video learning environment. When social distancing measures allow, some programmes, and parts of some programmes, may be delivered face-to-face.

How long is the course?

The course lasts 10 weeks, including a two week break for reflection.

What is the format of the course?

Each week you will attend a 90 minute webinar, as well as take part in up to two hours of peer group work and independent study.

Who is the course leader?

The course leader will be a small business and enterprise expert from the business school with which you complete the training. The curriculum has been designed by a consortium of 21 business schools. More details about the facilitators will be available shortly.

How will I access the course?

The business school delivering your course will in touch to let you know how to access the online tools for the programme. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with your facilitator to find out more.

Who will be in my cohort?

The programme is open to leaders of businesses with between 5-249 employees. You will be completing the programme alongside chief executives and other senior management team members from other businesses in your local area, who will bring experience from a range of sectors.

How much does the course cost?

The course is fully funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and is free to attend.

What happens if I can’t make a session?

We anticipate a high level of demand for the programme, and because places are limited and funded, participants are expected to commit to attend all sessions.

In order to support you to build your professional network, the curriculum includes some group work. It’s important not only for you, but for the other businesses in your cohort that you make every effort to attend.

If you are unable to attend a session, please speak with your facilitator.

Are charities and social enterprises eligible?

Social enterprises are eligible so long as they meet the other eligibility criteria. Unfortunately charities are not eligible for funding in this programme.
