Gin & Topic Talks: Cameron’s Catastrophe: Brexit and the Public Mind by Professor Paul Baines
In this lively talk, Paul outlines how we managed to get into the current situation and where we are now in relation to our political and economic relationship with the European Union. Drawing parallels and comparisons with the 1975 EEC referendum, he recounts the mistakes that David Cameron made both in calling a referendum in the first place and the way he implemented the campaign to support continued membership of the European Union given his pro-Remain stance. He will provide an insight into why the public voted the way they did and what we now need to do to stay on their side. As if all this were not enough, he try to explain where we are now in the Brexit negotiations from the public’s perspective, and answer any questions the audience may have.
