“The School of Business and Economics at Loughborough University is a truly exceptional school. The quality of our teaching and the commitment of our staff, combined with the international standing of our research, are reflected in our position as a leading UK institution” -- Professor Stewart Robinson, Dean of the School.

World-leading research

Our research is comprehensive in scope and very highly regarded by academics and practitioners alike, with 75% of our output considered ‘world-leading’ or 'internationally relevant' (and 100% of our Information Management research rated 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent'), according to the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014).

The research we do underpins all of our teaching, giving shape and substance to our courses and contributing to the outstanding and exceedingly relevant experience our students receive at Loughborough.

Research that matters

Research at the School of Business and Economics is integral to who we are and why we are here: research of the highest level that informs academia and our teaching, but that also helps shape and influence the wider world. Ultimately, our research matters.

We are passionate about the research we do and the vibrant, collegial research community we have created for staff and students, with four top-flight research centres producing internationally recognised work and 10 research interest groups that are developed to delve further into specific areas of interest.

The SBE prides itself on inspiring and supporting researchers from around the world to explore research questions that sit at the intersection of contemporary intellectual debate and the challenges confronting business and policy. That blending of rigour and relevance is at the core of our research philosophy: Ultimately, we do ‘Research that Matters’.

A key area of expertise in the School is our Decision Sciences research agenda that focuses on the development and application of rigorous research that can support both private and public sector decision makers and policy makers in understanding, evaluating and improving the performance and choices of organisations and individuals.
