April News update with Ian McNaught
We have been very busy since our last update and I am pleased to share this update from the Small Business Charter.
We are delighted to have awarded three new schools with a Charter award and look forward to working with them.
The schools are:
- Sheffield Management School
- London College of Fashion
- Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University
I have detailed other recent developments and some forthcoming opportunities below.
Growth Voucher Programme:
1,000 SMEs have now applied for the Small Business Charter Growth Voucher programme.
Recruitment to the programme closed on 31 March and the business school consortium are busy completing the business diagnostics workshops prior to delivering the workshops.
Building Growth Businesses Programme:
UCL delivered the first cohort’s series of workshops, and the SME feedback has been wholly positive.
Having proved the effectiveness of the programme’s framework and content, we have paused on going ahead with recruitment and delivery of the next cohorts, in order to reflect with BIS and BGS whether some aspects of the programme might be restructured to better meet the needs of all partners and small businesses.
Start-Up Loans Programme:
After further discussions with Start Up Loans Company on 18 March, the Small Business Charter is concluding the final details of its involvement with the SUL programme. More details will follow.
Small Business Charter Awards:
The Small Business Charter continues to invite applications from business schools across the UK to apply for the Small Business Charter Award. We are now planning further assessment visits throughout April, May and June 2015 for the schools who have submitted applications.
Business schools / HEIs wishing to submit a reapplication, or an upgrade application, are required to submit their application no later than 18 May 2015 for recommendation at the June management board meeting.
